Poker

The word “Poker” comes from the game of poker. While no one is certain when it originated, it’s widely believed to have been derived from a game played on a riverboat in the 17th century. According to the legend, Jonathan H. Green first attached the word “poker” to this cheating game after observing it in action. He described the game as being played between two and four players using a deck of twenty cards.

A player’s turn to make a bet begins with the player to his left. If he has a winning hand, he or she may check the pot. If someone else raises, the player to the left of him or her must call or fold. Players are usually dealt a chip deck consisting of red, black, or blue chips. The poker dealer assigns these chips values before the game begins. The dealer then exchanges the cash from the players for the chips in the pot.

The low-ranking hand is a pair of aces, which is known as a straight. A full house is a hand of three cards of the same rank. In some games, the highest-ranking four-of-a-kind hand wins. If two four-of-a-kind hands are tied, the high card outside of the hand will break the tie. If there are five four-of-a-kind hands, a flush is the best hand.
