Other than the kitty, there are several other important aspects of a good poker game. Players must be aware of which bets are allowed, which are not, and the appropriate amount of money to spend.

In the U.S., most poker players use a 52-card deck. They usually have two decks of different back colors.

Most variants of the game have an ante, a maximum chip limit, and a few other rules.
